Rochdale was named after and lies in the wide valley of the River Roch - which runs through the Town Centre which is actually under the nations widest bridge of its kind. In its heyday Rochdale was a predominant leader in the production of woollen and cotton cloths with textile mills scattered throughout the area and hence its coat of arms.
