ROCHDALE'S PROUD PAST POINTS WAY TO GREENER FUTURE IN NATIONAL AD
CAMPAIGN
Rochdale's proud history is at the centre of a new national
advertising campaign. The words 'How Rochdale Changed the World'
have been splashed across the side of buses, in double page adverts
in national newspaper and featured on prime time TV adverts.
It is all part of an advertising campaign launched by The
Co-operative on Monday.
Customers are being asked to 'join the revolution' by helping
create a greener, more sustainable country.
The campaign is dedicated to the Rochdale Pioneers who
established the first successful retail co-operative in 1844.
The TV commercial tells their story and also how they started a
revolution which is still going strong.
Andy Zuntz, executive director at Rochdale Council said: "It's
fantastic to see Rochdale being recognised as the birthplace of
co-operation in this high profile campaign.
Planning is already underway for a series of exciting events to
celebrate the International Year of Co-operatives in 2012 and we'll
be inviting everyone to celebrate in Rochdale.
"But before that I am delighted that later this year the
original store on Toad Lane where the movement began in 1844 will
re-open as a fabulous interactive museum.
"The development of the co-operative movement is a very
important part of Rochdale's history."
